Food Shortages affecting families in Rusinga, Kenya

Up to a third of the Kenya's 34 million people face major food shortage.

Ten million people in Kenya are facing severe food shortages after a season of poor harvests, aggravated by widespread drought.

Hearts for the World International has relationship with people in the region of Rusinga, Kenya. We have reached out to this
community in the past and have plans going forward to begin development work there as well.

Rusinga has seen a serious shortage of rain and drought conditions have caused a big problem in harvesting. Fishing has not been
productive either.

Despite the  interventions of various food programs in some parts of Kenya, the food needs of the affected communities are
increasing and therefore more needs to be done to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of these vulnerable groups.

Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki declared a state of emergency on May 31 after it emerged that the government was facing serious
challenges in providing food to parts of the country.

Hearts for the World International would like to begin food aid in Rusinga by feeding at least 35 families. One bag of corn will
feed a family of six for about three days and costs about $45 per bag.

We are asking for your help in providing food for this starving community.

You can donate bags of corn at $45 each by clicking on this link

If you are unable to purchase a bag of corn please visit our
DONATIONS page to make a donation
of any amount.

ALL MONIES RECEIVED WILL GO DIRECTLY TO PURCHASING AND DISTRIBUTING CORN IN
THE RUSINGA COMMUNITY.

Thank you for your generosity and willingness to share.

God Bless you.
