Food for Rusinga Families
On December 27th 2007, after a very close and highly emotional election campaign, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki declared himself re-elected as president.
That evening he held a hurried ceremony swearing himself into office. The head of the Kenya's election commission said Kibaki's party pressured him to release
the results before they could be verified, and he admitted that he didn't know for sure who had won.
The hotly contested election results led to post-election violence that has left more than 1,000 dead and has forced 300,000 Kenyans to flee their homes.
During the riots and violence many farms and crops were burned and supply and trade routes were closed; leaving hundreds of thousands of Kenyans without
food or money to buy food.
In mid-February HeartsForTheWorld.org began a campaign to raise necessary funds to help Kenyan families buy supplies and food to carry them through this
crisis. Thus far we have raised $1,500 and have been able to provide food for over 200 families in the Rusinga region of Western Kenya. We thank all of you
who have given so generously in this time of need.
We will continue this campaign to raise funds for food over the next few months. Continued help is needed to get these families through until harvest in late July
or August. If you would like to participate please visit our DONATIONS page for more information.
Thank you for your generosity and willingness to share.
God Bless you.
