We first met Philemon Wachara when he came to preach for our church in the early 1990’s. He was a fiery young preacher who
inspired everyone he met and fanned the flames for missions that were already burning in our hearts. We maintained some contact
through the years, mostly through other missionaries and Philemon coming to the U.S. to preach in our church every couple of years.
We finally met his wife Jane in 1996 and then Sydney went to Kenya to minister in the Harvest Centre in 1997. After 17 years, God
has knit our lives together and it was tremendous blessing to spend a week with him when we were in Kenya this summer.
Bishop Philemon Wachara has served in the pastoral ministry for over 20 years. In 1991 Philemon stepped out in faith to start the
Harvest Centre Fellowship in Kangemi district of Nairobi. The church began with 7 people and now has a congregation of over 3,000.
By 2002, seeing the needs of his church and community he began Harvest Centre School with 9 students and now, five years later,
the school has grown to over 350 students. In addition, the Harvest Center Computer School was started and has trained over 250
young people over the past three years. The Bishop also oversees 30+ churches in Kenya and Tanzania and serves the Yeager
Kenya Group, Inc. in the areas of business planning and African cultural awareness.
Bishop Philemon is currently on a sabbatical from his pastoral work and is working on a degree in Theology in Cincinnati, Ohio. Still
living a life of faith in the United States and believing the Lord to provide for his family here and watch over the ministry in Kenya.
Jane Wachara has been a businesswoman in Kenya for 10+ years. Jane was instrumental in helping 12 women start their own
business through a chain of Beauty Salons in Nairobi called Daughters of Africa Salons, Ltd. For the last 2 years, Jane has overseen
the operations on the ground in Kenya for Yeager Kenya Group, Inc. and has succeeded in organizing the USDA certification of farms
as organic in the Mt. Elgon area of Kenya near the Ugandan border.
We encourage you to open your hearts and ask the Lord how you might participate in the tremendous work God is
accomplishing through Biship Philemon and Jane Wachara.
